Tijdens een Slim Dusty optreden (Live At Townsville), opgenomen door een fan; eerst uitgebracht in 1996. Die Slim Dusty Show is door Australië beginnen toeren in 1954. Net zoals er minstens één echt House Of The Rising Sun bestaat (zie daar), bestaat er ook een echte Pub With No Beer/Café Zonder Bier. In land van oorsprong Australië zelfs meer dan één: Volgens de Australische bush-balladeer Slim Dusty die hier locaal mee scoorde ging de inspiratie uit van het Day Dawn Hotel in Ingham (provincie Queensland). Omdat die zaak werd drooggelegd door oorlogsomstandigheden schreef Sheahan toen zijn gedicht. Volgens inwoners van Taylors Arm, 40 km ten westen van Nambucca Heads (New South Wales), ging de inspiratie uit van hun dorpskroeg toen die circa 1950 overstroomd raakte en dagenlang zonder bier zat. Ze hebben daar nu diverse bieren van 't vat.

Volgens Slim Dusty, vriend van auteur Parsons, was de tekst geschreven door de Ier Dan Sheahan als A Pub Without Beer en werd die al gepubliceerd in de North Queensland Register in 1943. Gordon Parsons schreef er alleen de muziek bij. Reden genoeg om hiervoor opgenomen te worden in de Australian Roll Of Renown in Tamworth, het Nashville Down Under. Wat niet belet dat Pub With No Beer/Café Zonder Bier de walsmelodie van zijn refrein haast letterlijk bij een oud Stephen Foster-nummer ontleende: Beautiful Dreamer, geschreven in 1862, in de 1920s opgenomen door The Silvertone String Orchestra, gecoverd van Bing Crosby tot The Beatles, van Al Jolson tot Jerry Lee Lewis en het titelnummer (door Raul Malo) van een Stephen Foster tribute cd.
