Ik heb dat nummer toch geregeld op de radio gehoord in de jaren 1980 (was juist te jong om het bewust mee te maken toen het een hit was in de seventies) en dan werd er geregeld bij gezegd dat dat voor een "World Contact Day" was gemaakt...
Klaatu is bij ons misschien bekender van "A routine day" uit 1978 of daaromtrent.
Ze werden zaterdag (op het Individuele Vlaamse Quizkampioenschap) nog als tip verwerkt in een vraag naar een ruimtewezen met dezelfde naam uit de film "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

De originele World Contact Day was 15 maart 1953. "Calling occupants ..." is het begin van de tekst die toen "uitgezonden" werd, het is dus Klaatu die het idee overgenomen heeft en niet omgekeerd.

dat The Carpenters dat gecoverd hebben, wist ik en het werd zelfs gesampled door Dyewitness in Observing The Earth (een rave hitje van begin 90's), maar Klaatu.... nog nooit van gehoord
